This collection contains twenty-one papers prepared between March
1995 and November 1997 at the request of the Department of Justice of Canada.
We with to express our sincere thanks to the 13 jurists,
law professors and practitioners who agreed to conduct the studies on the
harmonization of federal legislation with the civil law as well as those on
Canadian bijuralism. the expertise of these jurists was essential to help us
understand the relationship between federal legislation and Quebec civil law
as well as the relationship between federal legislation and Canadian
bijuralism. Unfortunately, some of the studies prepared as part of the
harmonization project are not reproduced in this collection, since the
approach taken did not lend itself to their inclusion.
Finally, we wish to thank all those who directly or
indirectly contributed to implementing the harmonization project. It is
thanks to them that a thorough review of the relationships between federal
legislation and the civil law was undertaken.
